Finding your wedding venue in France is the most exciting part of planning. It’s also the biggest decision you’ll make.

Because your venue isn’t just a location. It’s the backdrop for your entire day, your photos, and your guest experience.

As a wedding planner in France, I tour venues with couples every month. And there are 5 questions I always tell them to ask before putting down a deposit.

Here’s how to find the perfect one for you.

1. What’s Actually Included in the Rental Fee?
French venues are beautiful, but “venue rental” doesn’t always mean the same thing.

Ask:

➛ On-site coordinator?

➛ Tables, chairs, linens included?

➛ Ceremony space separate from reception?

➛ Getting-ready rooms for bride + groom?

Planner tip: A €15,000 chateau that includes everything is often cheaper than a €10,000 venue where you rent every chair.

2. What Are the Restrictions?
This is the #1 thing that surprises couples.

Ask:
➛ What time does music have to stop? Many French venues have strict noise laws after 10pm.
➛ Can we bring our own caterer, alcohol, and vendors?
➛ Are candles, sparklers, or confetti allowed?
➛ Is there a backup plan for rain?

You don’t want to fall in love with a venue only to find out you can’t have dancing after 11pm.

3. How Will Your Guests Experience It?
Think beyond just how it looks.

Ask:

➛ Accommodation nearby?

➛ Where will guests park?

➛ Are there enough bathrooms?

➛ Is it accessible for elderly guests?

➛ Where will people go between ceremony and cocktail hour?

The most beautiful chateau in France isn’t perfect if your 80-year-old grandmother can’t get to the bathroom.

4. What Does It Look Like at Your Wedding Time?
This photo was taken at golden hour in late summer. The light hits the stone completely differently at 3pm in November.

Ask to see photos from:

➛ In bad weather

➛ The same month as your wedding

➛ The same time of day as your ceremony

And always, always visit in person if you can. Photos lie.

5. Do You Feel It?
This sounds cheesy but it matters.

When you walk in, can you picture your first dance here? Your vows? Your guests laughing?

The right venue should feel like you. Not just what’s trending on Instagram.

Some of my couples choose a modern villa. Some choose a rustic vineyard. Some choose exactly this: a classic French chateau.

There’s no wrong answer.
